A New Year A New Us

From Thanksgiving to New Years, we took a break from business. We needed it. 2018 was a rough year.

It started out with our children being positive with Pertussis. Michael’s grandfather, whom he was very close to, died in March. Michael’s son, from his first marriage, decided to live with his mom and then decided to move back. Our trucking business hit a big snag and we are shutting it down. Among all the other little things thrown in, we decided that we needed a break.

So from Thanksgiving till the New Year, we took that break from business in general. Did it hurt us? Financially, yes it did, but emotionally and mentally it did not. It was much needed.

We did talk over the holidays about where we wanted to go in 2019 and what needed to change. We spent the first weekend of the New Year trying to see where 2019 would take us. I am a planner and Michael is not, but together we always manage to work it out.

I will have to admit. By time Christmas came, I was lost. I did not know what to do or where to go. It was very depressing for me during the holidays. Lots of praying and Michael always helps me get through these situations.

One thing that Michael and I had discussed was spreading the word of holistic healing more. Of all the ailments that our family has suffered over the years, we have found ways to heal ourselves without major medical interventions. We want to share what we have learned to the world and let everyone know that they have choices.

People have rights to their bodies and what is going into them. Mainstream medicine has a place, but we believe that it is grossly overused and used incorrectly.

More Than Us - New Year A New Us

Our mission when we started More Than Us was to spread healing messages to those out there that are looking to heal and not just mask what is going on in their lives. Now do not get me wrong, we are not completely healed ourselves. We still have our own symptoms to work through and find solutions to.

With that being said, we are still proactively working to find solutions to our issues. I do not just mean physically, but spiritually, mentally, and emotionally too. We want to spread what has worked for us to all of you. So we spent the first part of the New Year talking about what to do to accomplish that.

We are working on setting new goals and making new plans to spread this word of healing that we have. We are going to continue to put out content for you about natural ways to help you heal physically in ways that we know have worked for family, friends and us. We are also going to add more.

Michael is building his relationship coaching for men to help those out there mentally and emotionally. His new website will be up soon, so be looking out for that. I am continuing my learning in ministry and as I grow in my faith, I plan on sharing what I have learned with you.

One place that we have started focusing harder on is our faith in God. We have been Christians for a while now and we know Jesus Christ. Our goal now is to lean into Him more and make Him more of a priority in our lives and the lives of those around us. We have found that no matter what season of live we are going through, Jesus is always there. We have found so much peace and grace in the Lord, our Father.

One place that I was working on last year was just reading my Bible more. I did that. I got the Bible App on my phone and picked a reading plan and just started reading.

This was not easy for me to do. This is not easy for most people to do. The Bible is a hard book to read. It is not like most novels and self help books that we pick up. There is a lot that is hard to understand and apply to our lives today.

I was gifted a Gospel Transformation Bible from our pastor. This bible helped me read the Old Testament and see how it relates to the New Testament. Now this bible did not answer all of my questions, but it did give me a deeper perspective into what the Bible is saying. There are still books of the Bible that were hard for me and I did not understand everything that was written. So that will lead me into my deeper learning going forward.

One of my biggest obstacles was time. I am a work at home mom of three little ones and I homeschool. Time is not on my side most days. I started with 10 minutes of reading in the book I was in. If I did not understand it, then I would stop and read it again the next day. If I still did not understand, then I would just move on. I came to the realization that this will be an ongoing learning process for me. There may be things that I will never understand until I meet God. So if I do not understand everything the first time around, that is okay.

Did you read that, IT IS OKAY!

My plan is to continue to learn and lean into my Bible and try my best to understand. I also plan on continuing my Bible study groups with our church. The women of our church try to hold a bible study in the Spring and Fall. I loved going to the last one. We read Practical Theology for Women. This opened my want to learn more about the Bible even more, because it laid out a basis of what to expect in the theological aspect.

I know I am not the only one out there that feels like this when it comes to studying my faith. I had plenty of bad days where I only read for 10 minutes and I did not understand any of it. I had to overcome my feeling of failure because of that and move on. If I stay stuck in that feeling, then I will never meet my goal of learning more about my faith, my God, and Jesus.

So I want to invite you to lean into your faith and do not be scared to learn more about God. On the days that I do, I feel so empowered to have God with me. I know that he is with me everyday, but I feel it more so when I am in His word too. Do not be afraid and do not give up. If you miss a day, or a week, that is okay. All you need to do is start up again where you left off.

I truly believe that Michael and I would not be where we are today without God in our lives. We are truly blessed. We want you to have that blessing and grace too. So here is to the year of 2019. I hope you stay with us to grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and most of all spiritually.

Let us know in the comments what you would like to hear from us about. Are you needing advice in a relationship matter? Would you like help in finding resources on holistic healing for you and your family? Do you want to know what we do to lean in to our spiritual learning with God? Let us know. We want to spread the word of what has helped us grow. You never know, maybe it will help you too, just like it has helped us.
